Living Well is an Australian service, and resource, that provides information, encouragement and support to men who have experienced childhood sexual abuse or adulthood sexual assault. Living Well also provides assistance to supporters of these men; their partners, friends, family and service providers.

If you or someone you know has experienced sexual abuse, whether as a child or adult, please know that you are not alone. Support and assistance is available.

Living Well currently provides the following services.

Web resources

The Living Well website is designed to act as a collection point for information and resources that are useful for men who have been subjected to sexual violence and their supporters. It has over one hundred articles providing information, support, self help, research analysis and professional development.

Counselling for men and their supporters

We offer direct counselling for individuals, couples and families. We offer face to face counselling from branches in both the North and South of Brisbane; Strathpine and Buranda. Telephone counselling and Online counselling are also available (by appointment) for people Australia-wide.

Group programs

At Living Well we recognise the value of multiple forms of engagement and service support. We have developed a Men’s Group Program specifically to assist men who have experienced sexual abuse.

Training and consultation

Living Well also provides training and professional development for people who work with men. These can be in the form of short public talks, 1 to 2 hour seminars, half day, 1 and 2 full day workshops. Our professional development aims to “Build worker confidence and competence in working with men who have experienced childhood sexual abuse or sexual assault.” If you can’t make it to one of our presentations, check out our resources in the For Professionals section.

Our Staff

All of the counselling staff employed by Living Well are fully qualified, trained and caring professionals. We employ only counsellors who have successfully completed a four year undergraduate degree (minimum) in Psychology or Social Work, or an equivalent masters degree. In addition to this our staff must be able to demonstrate practical knowledge, skills and experience in counselling individuals, couples and facilitating groups utilising a trauma informed care framework. I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for putting together such a valuable website of information. I am the partner of a male survivor and this is just the information I was looking for. He recently confided in me and while our conversation went well for the most part I was anxious to seek out additional information. Thank you for helping me navigate this difficult time and providing me with the resources to be a supportive and trustworthy partner. I cannot express my gratitude enough…
